Class Descriptions

Africa: the Motherland. The African continent is rich in history, culture and knowledge with an incredible musical and dance heritage that has been inspiring and influencing countless artists around the world.

Afrobeats have swept the African continent and extended their influence across the globe. This dance style leaves room for self-expression and enables each individual to follow the beat of their own drum by using their unique ”body language” through spontaneous personal variations.

The essence of real, traditional African dance is indeed continual creation, and solo improvisations are a big part of the dance, enabling each member of the community to express his own life story or feelings through movement.

Everyone can dance to African music – just feel the music, express yourself and let yourself go. It’s also an incredibly fun way to get that full body workout!

Created in The Bronx in New York City by Clive Campbell, a Jamaican-American DJ, Hip-Hop is the crossroads between Rap, Break Dance and Graffiti. Deeply engrained in Black culture, this street style quickly became the new genre young people identified with and adopted at house parties and neighbourhood block party events, held outdoors.

Our Hip-Hop class is truly beginner friendly and focuses on the foundational grooves and steps of Hip-Hop. Come learn this pivotal style of dance history from its very beginning.

Attire: non-marking sneakers and comfortable loose clothing (leggings, sweatshirts, t-shirts, tanks, etc.)

Mindful Meditation

The constant chaos and noise in our daily lives makes it harder and harder for us to “unplug” and focus. In this class, you will have the opportunity to disconnect from it all and truly be in the present moment, non judgementally, by paying attention in a particular way.

Through the use of controlled breathing, stretching, concentration and essential oils, we create a safe environment of tranquillity, peace and trust in which you will not only focus on the present moment with intent but also attain a higher state of mind.

Attire: non-marking sneakers and comfortable workout clothing (leggings, shorts, t-shirts, tanks, etc.)

Reggaetón music has its roots in Jamaican Reggae, Hip-Hop, Electronica and Latin rhythms such as Bomba and Salsa. The dance has influences in Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Salsa, Street Jazz and more.

In this fusion class, you can expect to learn isolations, body control, and musicality, which are the essence of this sexy and fun dance.

Attire: non-marking sneakers and comfortable loose clothing (leggings, sweatshirts, t-shirts, tanks, etc.)

Sexy Street Jazz

Let go of all inhibitions. Embrace your femininity. Own your sensuality. This highly anticipated class allows you to explore what confidence, woman empowerment and sensuality means to you. Come with an open mind (and heart) and get ready to fully immerse yourself in an eye opening and self-loving experience. Learn invaluable dance techniques, musical cues and rhythmic notions, while expressing yourself fully with a newly found confidence.

Attire: anything that makes you feel sexy, fierce and beautiful – the sky is the limit as long as you can move safely in it. We recommend spandex shorts, biker shorts, leggings, tanks, bodysuits and t-shirts. You may choose to wear non-marking sneakers or dance barefoot.

Stretch & Release

This class involves the use of foam rollers and massage balls for self-myofascial release and relief of muscle tension. It increases flexibility and mobility, assists in the recovery of muscles following physical activity, helps to minimize post-exercise muscle soreness and reduces tension and tightness in muscles and connective tissue.

Attire: non-marking sneakers and comfortable workout clothing (leggings, shorts, t-shirts, tanks, etc.)

Afro Styles

Let the sounds and grooves of Africa transport you and the fluid movements connect your mind, body and soul. In this class, you will learn various African styles from Traditional West African Dance to Afrobeats, as well as gain a better understanding about the history through music and dance deeply rooted in the African continent.

This is where it all started: African dance gave birth to many of the dance styles known to man. Although most of the ”traditional phrases” are but fragments of what used to be, we are privileged to share them with you today. By studying these fragments of movement and the spirituality behind them, you will be exposed to an outer world experience, compelling you to reflect on your own culture and traditions.

Learn the basics of pure swagger in this fun and energetic class touching on Old School and New School Hip Hop grooves. Starting with a grooving styled warm-up and a short stretch, this class features insanely fun choreography and comprehensive techniques to help you find your own swag. Presence and energy are key – the goal is to make you feel like you’ve added something new to your dance repertoire so you can (confidently) find your own groove.
